It is important to know that vegetable tanned leather has an open structure and will change color when exposed to sunlight. It is important to treat full grain leather with leather conditioner every now and then. Especially living in a warm or humid environment. Leather moisturizer will keep leather from drying out. If treated with care your product will age beautifully and last a lifetime. Keeping your leather dog collar and leash in the best condition is easy if you clean it every now and then. Blackjacks products are made of the best English bridle leathers and with a little care they can last a lifetime. To keep your leather products at its best we recommend the following.

Gently clean with a soft cloth and clean with a leather cleaning product (we highly recommend Fiebing's Saddle soap). 

Afterwards always apply a caring balm or grease (we recommend Fiebing's Aussie Leather Conditioner) Please not some leather conditioners and oils can darken the colors of the leather.

Remove the collar if your dog is playing rough, swimming, or scratching excessively. Leather is very soft, and these actives can cause impressions from teeth and nails.

We advise is to not let your dog wear the collar when swimming in the ocean. Salt water can be extremely harsh on leather. If your dog collar has been in the ocean  rinse it with tap water and let it dry naturally. Treating it with a caring balm/grease afterwards is always a great idea.
